PKU “Into Middle East” Delegation Visited Middle East Technical University in Ankara

 

On August 26, 2019, Peking University "Into Middle East" Delegation led by Dr. Fu Zhiming (Deputy Dean, School of Foreign Languages, Peking University; The Sultan Qaboos Chair Professor in Arabic Studies; Director of Middle East Studies Center) visited Middle East Technical University in Ankara, capital of the Republic of Turkey.

 

 

 

Dr. Ibrahim Yorgun, Director of International Engagements and Partnership Development Coordinator at the International Cooperations Office, METU accompanied the delegation and gave an introduction of the history and development of METU. The delegation also visited the Confucius Institute at METU where they were welcomed by Dr. Du Yun, Co-Director of the Institute from China and Dr. Sirin Saracoglu, Co-Director of the Institute from Turkey.

 

 

In the afternoon, METU arranged three lectures for the delegation. Dr. Sirin Sracoglu from Department of Economics gave an lecture entitled "Overview of Turkish Economy &Turco-Sino Economic Relations" . Dr. Muge Akkar Ercan from Department of City and Regional Planning presented " Looking into Urban Regeneration: Evolution, Definition, and Purposes and Reflections on Turkey" and Dr. Serif Onur Bahcecik from Centre for European Studies gave “Belt and Road Initiative in Sino-Turkish Relations”. The delegation members had several rounds of discussions and Q&As with the professors regarding the contents of the lectures and relating topics.
