Seminar on “The Middle East Situation and Its Future Trends against the Background of the Russia-Ukraine Conflict” Held in Beijing

On July 29, 2022, the Seminar on “The Middle East Situation and Its Future Trends against the Background of the Russia-Ukraine Conflict” was held in Beijing, jointly sponsored by the magazine of Beijing Cultural Review and the Eurasian System Science Research Association, and co-organized by the Center for Middle Eastern Studies of Peking University (CMES-PKU).

 

 

The seminar was divided into three sessions and round table discussions. More than 30 experts and scholars from the magazine of Beijing Cultural Review, the Eurasian System Science Research Association, Peking University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, China Institute of International Studies, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai International Studies University, and CNPC Economics & Technology Research Institute attended the seminar in a combination of online and offline methods. Against the background of the Russia-Ukraine Conflict, they presented speeches and exchanged views mainly over three topics: "America, Russia and the Middle East Strategic Pattern", "Strategic Choice of Regional Powers", and "Economic and Social Changes and Regional Conflicts".

 

 

Wu Bingbing, director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies of Peking University, and Li Haipeng, assistant professor, moderated and commented on the speeches in the second and third sessions respectively, while postdoctoral researcher Li Ruiheng presented a speech in the third session. Peking University graduate students Ma Yanqi, Zhang Ruofeng and Deng Weilin attended the seminar as well.
