On May 27, 2024, Prof. Fu Zhiming, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Peking University, and Dr. Wu Bingbing, State of Qatar Chair Professor in Middle Eastern Studies Director of Department of Arabic Language and Cultures visited Qatar University to attend the 7th Meeting of Oversight Committee of State of Qatar Chair in Middle Eastern Studies at Peking University.

 

 

 

The meeting was held simultaneously in Qatar University and Peking University. Fu Zhiming and Wu Bingbing attended the meeting at the Qatar venue as representatives of Peking University.

 

 

 

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Hani Findakly, President of the Oversight Committee, Chairman of the Oversight Committee. During the meeting, Fang Fang, Vice President of PKU and member of the Oversight Committee, acknowledged the substantial achievements of the Qatar Chair over the past four years in organizing conferences and lectures, conducting student exchanges, and publishing academic works. He also praised the Chair’s relentless efforts made to promote collaboration between Peking University and Qatar University. Fang expressed that Peking University will continue to strongly support the work of Qatar Chair, promote the development of Middle Eastern studies, and achieve higher-level and more effective cooperation between the two universities.

 

 

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Kaabi, Vice President of Qatar University and new member of the Oversight Committee, stated his hope to gain a more detailed understanding of the various aspects of the Qatar Chair through this meeting. He also looked forward to planning the next phase of work with the Chinese counterparts to further promote the continuous development of cooperation between the two universities.

 

 

Subsequently, Chair Professor Wu Bingbing summarized the work and financial status of Qatar Chair since 2020 and reached a consensus with the attending representatives on the work plan for the second half of this year and 2025.

 

 

Other attendees included Dr. Fatima Kubaisi, member of the Oversight Committee and Dean of College of Arts and Sciences at QU; Dr. Abdulaziz Manna, Vice Dean of College of Arts and Sciences; Dr. Maryam Kuwari, Director of Gulf Studies Center; Prof. Li Shujing, Secretary of CPC Party Committee, School of Foreign Languages at PKU and Dr. Cui Zhe, Deputy Director of Office of International Relations at PKU.

 

 

In the afternoon of the 27th, Prof. Fu Zhiming and Dr. Wu Bingbing were invited to attend a Roundtable Seminar hosted by the Gulf Studies Center at Qatar University. Dr. Wu Bingbing delivered a keynote speech on the friendly cooperation between China and Middle Eastern countries and engaged in discussions with scholars from Qatar University.
